Culinary Experiences and Etiquette

Food, in all its forms, is a crucial component of the course. We start by introducing you to culinary terms, ingredients, and individual dishes, ensuring that you can engage with various eateries, restaurants, and bars that constitute a significant portion of your coursework. Alongside the culinary journey, you'll also discover Spanish etiquette, learning the local customs and practices when it comes to eating and drinking, further enriching your cultural experience. While having fun is essential, the primary objective is to enhance and evolve your ability to communicate effectively in Spanish.

Many choose this course to immerse themselves in Spain's unique cuisine and cultural diversity. Each meal is handpicked for its authenticity and quintessential Spanish essence, from breakfast on Plaza Felix Azpilicueta to ‘chuletas a la brasa riojana’ at an authentic merendero. Spain's rich tapestry of flavors can be traced back through time, with nearly all of its 17 autonomous regions and 52 individual provinces having their distinct dishes, often jealously guarding their recipes that define the region.

Fuenmayor is celebrated for its diverse selection of eateries and restaurants. Dignitaries, celebrities, and everyday Spaniards flock from all corners to savour the gastronomic explosion of flavours and welcoming ambience. The village and its surroundings boast three Michelin-star restaurants, Spain's top boutique hotel, and numerous acclaimed establishments specializing in traditional Spanish cuisine (Cocina tradicional Española). Many of these consistently rank among Spain's best restaurants in popular guides.

Furthermore, a wide array of bars and pubs serve food, presenting exquisite 'tapas,' 'raciones,' and 'platos combinados' (all explained on the first day of your course). As you delve into the Spanish culinary world, you'll gain insights into the etiquette surrounding dining, such as sharing tapas, customary tipping practices, and the art of conversation during meals, making your experience in Spain even more authentic and enjoyable.
